Question

Could the stories that Brooks wrote be true? If they are true why do you think that some of the characters who were not Jewish protected the book and placed their life in danger?

  1. I think some of her stories could mirror events and people that were real, but I don't think its true. She may have known a "hanna" work-aholic type, or a timid yet very intelligent Lola. I think people who weren't Jewish put their lives in danger for a greater cause. THe book was beautiful and valuable, and adds alot to Jewish culture. Even though I'm not Jewish, I'm still thankful the book was saved. I would have done what I could to save the book.

  2. I agree that the characters could be similar to people that Brooks knows and I think the stories could have been based on stories of what people think happend. I think that people who weren't Jewish put themselves at risk because the book is important to history and can't only be appreciated if you are Jewish.

  3. Leonadro deVinci painted the Last Supper, but that doesn't mean you have to be a Christian to apriciate the beautiful painting. I think when it comes to artwork, religion should be looked over and the valure of the work should come from how beautiful the piece is. The Haggadah was a rare, expensive, beautful, hisotrical piece, and I think the people who protected it apriciated the artwork for that.

  4. I agree with Aimee that you don't have to be Jewish to appreciate the Haggadah because it is a rare book for its time, and it can help us understand how the people who wrote it lived.

  5. I think the stories could have some truth in them because they could have been passed down from generations ago. But I think they also could have been not very accurate if they were passed down for that long.

  6. I also think that the book is fictional, not only because Brooks says so, but it's too unrealistic that a book so beautiful, important to the Jewish people and special could have escaped the book burning bonfires. I would like to think so, that many books like the haggadah made it, but it just isn't realistic.

  7. I think that the stories of the people could be true. It's easy to imagine them happening because Brooks describes them so vividly. I think every story has at least a little bit of truth in it, everyone has to write at least a little of what they know. I also think everyone can appreciate the story that Brooks wrote.
